Kim, Amy and I flew in yesterday after afternoon after getting out of bed at 3:30am in London to catch a cab, to get to the airport in time for a 7:15am flight. Ouch.
Thursday night at the Generator was very interesting... We´d spent one happy night there Wednesday and then Amy left to meet with her parents on Thursday. So Kim and I were left in (what was to become) fated room 604. We arrived back to the room in the arvo to find a suitcase next to Amy´s old bed, the bunk bed under Kim and next to me. Cool, no worries. Then the guy that owned the suitcase rocked up. Not cool, big worries. He was very strange to say the least and whatever drugs he was on didn´t seem to be too healthy for his mental state. So we politely asked at reception to move to another room. No problem. Except while we were packing up, he got out of bed & was being super-weird, then a big black security guard walked in, making it very ackward. So with a ´have a good stay´Kim and I bolted out the door with our bags and didn´t stop running till we got to our new room. Saw him later on too, which was a bit freaky but at least the hostel people were good about it and there was heaps of security.
So, now in San Sebastian and very few people speak English. Quite funny having someone rattle off, very quickly, some seemingly long sentences, without having any idea what´s going on. And when I say 'I don't speak Spanish' that doesn't stop them, they just keep on going. Eh, they´re friendly and charades works quite well :)
Now, onto the tapas bars. I think I´m in love with this whole idea. Walk into a bar, grab whatever snack you want off the bar, order a drink or two, then pay for what you had at the end. Have had some fantastic snacks too - a spicy, mince-meat roll thing, a piece of bread with prociutto and salmon and mayo, and some satay stick of meat. Found a great one last night with a friendly bar guy, where all the snacks were €1.50 each and a glass of beer about €1.10. We´re planning more of the same tonight followed by some pubbing/clubbing in the Parte Vieja area.
